Committee Descriptions:
DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION: Our committee works to educate, promote and advocate for diversity, equity and inclusion for our mountain community. Chair - Marie Lynch
EDUCATION: We strive to find the most relevant topics for CE classes and lunch and learns, with the most knowledgeable and dynamic instructors, working actively in their fields, to keep our members up to date with the latest knowledge and exposure for their profession. CMAS (Certified Mountain Area Specialist) classes are only offered by MMAR, and we are known in the state for this important designation for REALTORS® who learn valuable information related to buying and selling mountain properties. We maintain the certification of our CMAS classes with DORA. When the certification has been granted, designees must take at least one CMAS class per year to maintain the designation. The committee also arranges for Code of Ethics training to be offered each quarter by MMAR. Chair: Samantha Glenn.
ADVERTISING/SOCIAL MEDIA: MMAR continues to reach new audiences and adapt to the social presence of marketing and what REALTORS® need for there business. We continue to expand our social media material to get information to our REALTORS® quicker. Our social media committee has worked to brand the Association and bring easability to what is currently happening with MMAR. Chair - Jessica Gentry
AFFILIATES: All MMAR Affiliate members are welcome to attend these meetings. We discuss any updates from the Board of Directors related to Affiliate members, upcoming MMAR events, Community Outreach events, New Member Orientation, etc. Any ideas for other networking opportunities are always welcome. RAAD (REALTORS® and Affiliates After Dark) events have taken place monthly, prior to COVED-19, typically in local restaurants or bars, where both REALTORS® and Affiliate members mingle, network, and enjoy food and drinks. We hope to be able to hold those again in 2021. Chair - Laura Roberts
MEMBERSHIP: This committee runs the new member Orientation that follows the Ethics class for both new REALTOR® and Affiliate members. It also arranges the MMAR Membership Breakfast, where the Board of Directors makes a full pancake breakfast for all REALTOR® and Affiliate members. Guest speakers are invited and are an important part of the breakfast, speaking on topics of value to our members. This committee also runs the Inaugural each fall where the new Chair, Chair-Elect, and Board members are inducted into their positions. In December, the membership committee normally runs the holiday breakfast, which includes light holiday music and a full breakfast buffet. Co-Chairs - Libby Dufford & Robin Stahnke
COMMUNITY OUTREACH: Community Outreach is responsible for coordinating and planning the Goldilocks at The Little Bear annual fundraising event benefiting our local public libraries. We have also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, doing light construction work on new homes for families who have been selected. And we collect hats, gloves, and socks for ECHO’s holiday food baskets. In the past we have built and sold Barn owl nesting boxes, and have participated in the Big Chili Cookoff and the Evergreen Fire and Rescue's Safety Fair. This committee is a fun experience for all, visible in the mountain communities, promoting our association as we contribute to community activities and causes. Various activities are sometimes added to our calendar throughout the year. Chair - Rachel Mulvihill
WILDFIRE: This committee works with state and local departments to bring awareness of the fire dangers that exists in our mountain communities, with an emphasis on creating defensible space, and assessment and mitigation of potential hazard areas. Classes and programs, including MMAR's CMAS (Certified Mountain Area Specialist) designation's CMAS Wildfire class, are taught on a regular basis to educate MMAR members, as well as members of the foothills communities. Chair - Cathie Nicholson Please also refer to www.rotarywildfireready.com, as an excellent additional resource.
GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS: The Government Affairs committee keeps members up to date on government issues and info that affect the counties of the MMR jurisdiction, working in close contact with NAR and CAR. Chair - Nick Melzer
RPAC (REALTORS® Political Action Committee): The purpose of RPAC (through NAR) is to raise and spend money to elect candidates who understand and support their interests, and to promote legislation that promotes homeownership and other local issues. The money to accomplish this comes from voluntary contributions made by REALTORS®. These are not members’ dues; this is money given freely by REALTORS® in recognition of how important campaign fundraising is to the political process. We strive to make sure that MMAR has a voice in support of pro-REALTOR® and pro-homeownership candidates. Chair - Julia Purrington
