Black History Month Lecture with Dr. Michael Eric Dyson
Dr. Michael Eric Dyson joins the Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion at Emory & Henry College for a keynote lecture in honor of Black History Month. Southwest is proud to partner with Emory & Henry College for this event as part of our “A Bridge to Change: The Future of the Freedom Movement in Southwest Virginia” initiative. Dr. Dyson is a Georgetown University sociology professor, a New York Times contributing opinion writer, and a contributing editor of The New Republic, and of ESPN’s The Undefeated website.
Dr. Dyson is an academic, author, ordained minister, and radio host. He is a professor in the College of Arts and Science and in the Divinity School at Vanderbilt University. Described by Michael A. Fletcher as “a Princeton Ph.D. and a child of the streets who takes pains never to separate the two”, Dyson has authored or edited more than twenty books dealing with subjects such as Malcolm X, Martin Luther King Jr., Marvin Gaye, Barack Obama, Illmatic (Nas’s debut album), Bill Cosby, Tupac Shakur and Hurricane Katrina.
